The Division
We are looking for a dynamic Environmental Consultant to work mainly on projects, proposals and leads in the UK. The successful candidate will have a technical background in environmental science and experience within environmental consultancy in the area of environmental impact assessment (EIA), with particular focus on wind energy (on & off-shore). The multi-faceted role will involve senior technical and general contribution to project work and proposals and some aspects of business development.


The post holder will need to be a good communicator, efficient worker and enjoy the challenge of a growth-orientated environment. The candidate must be able to manage and direct project teams. The role will require close working with members of the Environment Division across the UK as well as with staff across other Divisions (e.g. construction and coastal and rivers engineers). They must contribute proactively to our desire to ensure consulting services are consistently delivered to the highest standards.


The role will require occasional travel across the UK and may also require travel to international destinations.
Job description
Main responsibilities:


  • As Project Director, Project Manager or as part of a project team, assist in the delivery and project management of environmental consultancy projects.
  • To contribute to the delivery of high quality advice and report output in projects including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Management Plans (EMP), strategic studies, and the provision of planning and consenting advice.
  • To liaise and work closely with EIA, environmental and engineering specialists in other offices.
  • To manage and prepare proposals for specialist as well as multi-disciplinary projects.
    Contribute to co-ordinated development of new business.
  • To assist in the implementation of marketing initiatives that deliver with the overall Royal Haskoning business development plan and further develop client list.
  • To represent and promote Royal Haskoning within the environmental marketplace through the preparation of literature, attending meetings, conferences and seminars.


    General Duties:
  • To effectively use (with training) the Royal Haskoning Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Work towards improved technical and personal development with training and guidance within the person’s specialities.
  • General support, as required, to the environment team.
  • Carry out any duties which your line manager may reasonably request within the broad parameters of your role.

    Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc and/or relevant project experience (essential) in a related discipline, ideally from an environmental science base with an understanding of engineering/planning principles for renewable energy projects.
  • Extensive work experience (essential) (more desirable).
  • Experience in project management and EIA (essential).
  • Knowledge of the renewable energy market (essential) and previous project management experience of one or more of renewable energy or marine and coastal development (desirable), preferably in Scotland.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and government policy/guidance (essential), as well as the EIA process (desirable).
  • Environmental knowledge of the terrestrial and / or coastal and marine environment (essential).
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (desirable).
  • Financial management and administration experience (essential).
  • Report-writing and presentational skills (essential).
  • Experience of managing medium-large project teams (desirable).
  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills (essential).
