North York Moors National Park Authority looks after one of the most phenomenal parts of the British Isles. We are now looking for a Senior Ranger to lead our team looking after the western part of the National Park on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Role

As a Senior Ranger, you will prioritise and deliver a wide range of recreation and conservation project work. You’ll have a great team of people to work with including paid staff, volunteers and apprentices.

You’ll be the face of the National Park in your area, so working with local communities, landowners and interest groups, and establishing good working relationships with them will be key to your success.

You’ll need to be ready to work with our Communications Team to share information about the great things going on in your areas.

Additionally, you will:

- Be responsible for the organisation and effective deployment of paid staff and volunteers, making sure that they work safely
- Manage the condition of Public Rights of Way and organise their maintenance
- Seek out and develop opportunities for income generation and external funding
- Identify opportunities to improve and promote accessibility within the National Park

About You

If you want to join us, you will need to tell us about your:

- Experience of managing budgets, working with external funding and delivering projects on time
- Inspiring team management skills
- Examples of working in partnership with communities, landowners, farmers, Parish Councils and user groups
- Proven knowledge and experience of Health & Safety legislation, especially in relation to site risk assessments and working procedures
- Knowledge of legislation affecting access and Public Rights of Way
- A full, valid driving licence

Knowledge of the economic and management needs of moorland areas and an understanding of hill farming systems would be beneficial to your application, as would a working knowledge of GIS and its practical application.

Please note, you will need a flexible attitude to working hours and days and a willingness to work one weekend in four as part of a Duty Ranger rota.
