AssureWel is a major collaborative project between the Soil Association, RSPCA and Bristol University, supported by a grant of £2,700,000 from the Tubney Charitable Trust.

This five year collaborative project aims to deliver optimum welfare assurance within RSPCA Freedom Food and Soil Association Certification Schemes and promote the uptake of outcome-based assurance within other UK and European farm assurance schemes.

We are looking for a Senior Project Officer to lead in the delivery of the goals and objectives for the AssureWel project across the Soil Association, working in very close cooperation with our inspection and certification body Soil Association Certification Limited.

You will provide key input through the delivery of an integrated approach to project activities, in particular, data analysis. Driving forward the development of welfare outcome-based standards with the Soil Association standards team, you will also act as a key advocate for the approach both internally and externally, building relationships with industry wide technical experts and leaders in your field.

The day-to-day role will include data reporting and analysis, aiding in the development of measures for new species, evaluating implementation procedures and processes, documenting project work, organising meetings, ensuring the project financial records and reporting are complete and aiding the Head of Standards and Best Practice in any other  area of project work.

Working with Soil Association staff, Bristol University and the RSPCA you will ensure excellent communication and cooperation with the project team to both represent the Soil Association, and to ensure effective project delivery.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant scientific area, preferably with a higher level qualification in farm animal welfare or statistics. Self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative, you will have a demonstrable track record in research, report writing and data analysis and be an excellent relationship builder and a confident communicator. A good working knowledge of animal welfare regulation and organic livestock farming will be an advantage, as will experience of working with, and developing, standards (preferably organic). A good track record in project administration and management is desirable.
