How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Restoration Projects, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for team direction and execution pertaining to restoration project planning, project design, securing approvals, project implementation and overall project management of various restoration projects within TRCA’s jurisdiction. This position oversees the planning, implementation and coordination of various restoration programs making decisions on allocating capital revenue to priority habitat projects, securing special project funding through partnerships, guiding project planning and design, tracking budgets, working with construction teams to implement projects and reporting on deliverables. This position works closely with internal groups and external agencies to develop long term restoration goals, develop strategies for implementation, secure partnership agreements and report on project/program performance. Overall, this position plays a critical role in the delivery of restoration projects including wetlands, streams, forests and meadows. This position contributes to the strategic plan objectives including improving protection of water quality and aquatic ecosystem health; building a more robust network of green space and green infrastructure; and improving protection of natural systems.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction on developing programs that deliver multiple habitat restoration projects that focus on wetlands, stream, riparian, and terrestrial ecosystems.

  • Develop short- and long-term work plans, priorities, goals and strategies for habitat projects.

  • Develop, coordinate and review detailed plans for restoration projects.

  • Allocate funds and develop budgets and track expenditures for various restoration programs.

  • Oversee project planning and design, tracking budgets, and reporting on overall program deliverables.

  • Guide the implementation of multiple projects alongside the project construction team.

  • Provide technical support, financial management guidance, and overall project management to the Restoration Projects group and project partners.

  • Manage work teams that secure approvals for TRCA projects.

  • Provide technical support on strategic planning initiatives, habitat restoration project development; plan design; internal, external and public consultations; regulatory permit acquisition; work plan development; budget preparation; cost control and project logistics.

  • Direct site visits and data collection, desktop analysis and compiling information for project planning.

  • Direct engineers, consultants and contractors in support of project planning and design.

  • Deliver effective public consultation when needed.

  • Maintain effective liaison and develop habitat project partnerships with other agencies.

  • Coordinate, review and prepare proposals for partnership agreements and non-traditional sources of funding to assist in achieving mutual objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety and other regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct client meetings, contractor selection, project start up, progress tracking, contingency planning and close out.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in resource management, restoration ecology, environmental sciences, fish and wildlife management or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience related to major tasks; resource management, restoration ecology, environmental sciences, fish and wildlife management or related field.

  • Expert knowledge of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, fish and wildlife and habitat requirements, Environmental regulatory legislation, project management and implementation.

  • Proven ability to manage, plan, develop and implement habitat restoration projects.

  • Collect and analyze biophysical information including habitat assessments and restoration opportunities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong public relations skills.

  • Demonstrated report and proposal writing and analytical skills.

  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.

  • Effective problem-solving skills and leadership skills including staff supervision, coaching and mentoring.

  • Excellent computer proficiency with software experience (MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access, ArcMap).

  • Strong budget management and cost control skills.

  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.

  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license in good standing.
