Senior Programme Officer

Salary Band £30,735 - £43,907

The United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) aims to put the best available biodiversity information in front of national, regional and global decision makers. The Centre is the result of a collaborative agreement between UNEP and WCMC, a UK Charity.

The role: The primary focus of this position is to work in close collaboration with other programmes at UNEP-WCMC, supporting the development and implementation of new and existing projects focused on collaboration with business.

Key responsibilities: The post holder will work closely with the BBES Programme and business partners on the design and implementation of biodiversity projects in the area of risk assessment, biodiversity and ecosystems services indicators and metrics, mitigation including environmental safeguards and offsets. They will also provide leadership, technical input and support to promote the further development and implementation of WCMC's work on standards and certification schemes, including the environmental safeguard of financial institutions.

The candidate: The successful candidate will hold a degree in in Ecology (or equivalent qualification) and a postgraduate qualification also in Ecology or relevant area. They will have an ability to provide intellectual leadership, creativity and simplicity to problem solving as well as proven experience in biodiversity conservation and/or ecology. They will also need to have a track-record in successfully applying their scientific knowledge to real world projects. They will have a sophisticated understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnership-building and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
