Senior Programme Officer - Marine Assessment and Decision Support Programme

The United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) aims to put the best available biodiversity information in front of national, regional and global decision makers. The Centre is the result of a collaborative agreement between UNEP and WCMC, a UK Charity.

The role

The primary focus of this position is to work in collaboration with other programmes at UNEP-WCMC develop and execute an effective global marine data partnership on critical marine and coastal ecosystems. This is a permanent position. Salary Band £30,735 - £43,907.

Key responsibilities

The post holder will coordinate, with other relevant staff in the Marine Programme and at UNEP-WCMC, the integration and consolidation of existing habitat datasets. They will also co-develop a sustainable funding strategy, and associated funding proposals for a global data partnership, with the Head of Programme and Senior Management of WCMC. Furthermore, collaboratively develop an appropriate implementation framework(s) for the partnership, addressing various issues.

The candidate

The successful candidate will hold a postgraduate qualification in (MSc or higher) in marine, ecology or a related discipline, with a strong emphasis on one or more of the following: GIS, Remote Sensing, Ecological Niche Modelling, database management. They will have extensive knowledge of GIS data management, and at least one of the following, GIS, Remote Sensing, Ecological Niche Modeling, Statistical analysis. They will also have considerable experience in managing and integrating large datasets. Furthermore, they will have an understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnership-building and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
