The European Climate Foundation (ECF) is looking to recruit a full-time senior programme associate for its EU Climate Policies programme. The ECF is a private philanthropic foundation. It aims to promote climate and energy policies that greatly reduce Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions and helps Europe play an even stronger international leadership role in mitigating climate change. The senior programme associate will:
- Focus essentially - but not exclusively - on policies designed to mobilise private and public finance for the rapid development of Europe’s low-carbon economy, at the EU level and in key member states.
- Constantly monitor policy developments and liaise with relevant stakeholders at EU and national levels.
- Develop and implement grant making strategies accordingly to promote stronger EU and national-level policies on climate, identifying suitable partners and handling grants from inception to detailed administration.
- Liaise with other organisations sharing common objectives, and represent ECF at events and meetings.
- Build coalitions, bring actors together around agreed strategies, and organise required meetings, conferences, seminars and other events.
- Report to the Programme Director and work closely with all ECF staff, building bridges between programmes.
- Be highly energetic and committed.
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
- Good knowledge of the finance / banking / investment sector and how policies and regulations affect investment decisions in the low-carbon sector (renewables, energy efficiency, grid infrastructure).
- Good understanding of how policy is made in the EU and Member States.
- Passion for the fight against climate change.
- At least 7-10 years of relevant professional experience for instance working in the finance sector and/or climate/energy policy field, in particular related to investments in renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and other clean energy technologies and infrastructure development.
- Ability to work in a multicultural team and a personal orientation that emphasises teamwork ahead of getting credit.
- Exceptional skill at building relationships with professionals across business, investment, government and civil society.
- Willingness to take on a diversity of challenges over time.
- Education to at least Master level or equivalent.
- Understanding of a wide range of tools to bring about change from advocacy to research and campaigning.
- English at a professional/technical level. (The selection process will involve written tests.)
- Additional language skills will be a plus.
