Description

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a Senior Program Officer to join its climate change team in order to lead its work in developing and advocating for strong policies and programs to reduce carbon emissions caused by tropical deforestation. The successful candidate will be responsible for following and developing advocacy strategies around international institutions working to develop forest carbon policy, including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Interim REDD+ Partnership, and international financial institutions. The position will also assist in developing and implementing WWF’s work to advance national forest carbon strategies and programs in key countries.

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and six-to-eight years of work experience in a relevant nonprofit, public or private sector focusing on forest carbon, international forestry, and/or climate change is required. A Graduate degree or related experience is preferred. Specific experience related to international policy on reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) and other payment for ecosystems services models is also desirable. Familiarity with international climate policy, field-based forest conservation strategies, and international financial institutions is needed.

Strong written and verbal communications skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work well with senior and mid-level Government officials, and organization staff is needed. The successful candidate will also be a creative and innovative thinker and problem-solver, have negotiation and facilitation skills, and be able to travel nationally and internationally.
