Description

The Senior Program Officer leads a program team and is responsible for the design, development and implementation of one of ISC’s domestic projects – the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Compact. The incumbent will manage a three year implementation grant with direction from the Program Director, Adaptation & Resilience, US Climate & Environment Programs and the Compact’s Staff Steering Committee. The position requires a significant degree of high quality coordination between the Compact parties, other key stakeholders and other ISC staff in the delivery of a series of implementation planning events, stakeholder outreach, program analysis to identify best practices in a wide range of sustainability and resilience initiative, program design and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The successful incumbent will be a highly motivated self starter as the position will be supervised remotely. Funding for the position is secure for three years after which the position is contingent upon the will of the ISC’s Compact partners and the availability of additional funding.

This position is located in Montpelier, VT or Southeast Florida. Extensive travel within the region (Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties) is required; some travel outside the region is required.

Responsibilities

 

    • Lead in the development and implementation of ISC’s support of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact;

 

    • Develop and support key components of the Compact’s implementation process, including but not limited to solutions to foster community sustainability, resilience to climate impacts, enhanced environmental quality and regional economic prosperity;

 

    • Work collaboratively with Compact partners and others in the development and delivery of the recommendations within the Compact’s Regional Climate Action Plan and associated implementation strategy;

 

    • Provide technical support to ISC’s programs domestically and internationally, as required;

 

  • Lead a program team, providing direction and day to day supervision to team members.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Broad knowledge of and experience with community-based programs designed to increase energy efficiency, and promote climate adaptation or mitigation;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Good budgeting skills;
  • Strong work ethic, personal integrity;
  • Ability to identify and seize strategic opportunities to advance the Compact;
    Ability to effectively manage contractors;
  • Ability to work productively with diverse individuals from disparate backgrounds;
  • Ability to work positively and effectively both as a leader and as a member of cross-functional work teams;
  • Ability to work as a highly productive independent contributor when necessary;
  • Ability to provide leadership and project management for team projects, prioritizing work assignments and managing to appropriate deadlines;
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite, data processing, email, Internet browsers, and other software.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Advanced degree in a related field;
  • Five years of relevant professional experience, preferably as a sustainability director or manager for a local government or other large institution;
  • Project design and implementation experience;
  • Willingness and ability to travel;
  • Commitment to the ISC mission and goals.
