POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Position Title:  Senior Program Conservation Manager 

Reports to:                     GHOA NI Leader / Regional Conservation Director

Location:                     Yaounde, Cameroon

Date:                           October 22, 2009

I. Mission of the Department: To ensure CARPO/GHOA programmes delivers conservation impact in accordance with the GHOA NI strategic plan.

Develop and streamline implementation of GHOA NI work plan alongside country and landscape work plans and ensure progress ensuring timely development and implementation of work plans and budgets, ensure synergies and coherence across countries and landscapes for the implementation of the CARPO/GHOA workplan

The Regional Programme Conservation Manager provides support for the Conservation’s field operations and serves as the focal point for NI work plan field implementation. 

II Major duties and responsibilities 

As requested by the Regional Conservation Director: 

  1.  Coordinates implementation of CARPO /GHOA NI portfolio of activities in accordance with the GHOA NI’s 3-5 year strategic plan; 
  2. Develop and streamline implementation of GHOA NI work plan alongside country and landscape work plans and ensure progress  
  3. Ensure timely development and implementation of work plans and budgets 
  4. Ensure reporting on conservation Key performance indicators (KPIs) 
  5. Ensure synergies and coherence across countries and landscapes for the  implementation of the CARPO/GHOA workplan  
  6. coordinates preparation, review and timely submission of technical and financial reports, for review by the Regional Conservation Director with due considerations to WWF standards and donors requirements  
  7. Conduct on-site project evaluations to ensure implementation of approved projects and technical compliance with donor requirements and report findings to the Regional Conservation Director. 
  8. Work closely with Communication division to generate success stories emanating from landscape and country conservation achievements (big Wins)
  9. 10. Supervise preparation of bi-annual technical reports for GHOA NI to SHG and individual donors as required; 
  10. 11.   Assist in drafting Job description for staff and Tors for Consultants
  11. Provide necessary support to national programs notably conservation division with regard to PAs development, landscape activities and other national conservation initiatives where necessary 

III. Profile

Required Qualifications 

• An advanced degree or equivalent work experience in environmental, and/or relevant social, natural or political sciences;

• Technical proficiency in the field of conservation, natural-resource management or international development;

• 3-5 years professional experience (with at least 2 years in the Congo Basin region), with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams

and multiple donor budgets. 

Required Skills 

• Good technical, organizational, interpersonal and teambuilding skills essential;

• Proven experience in effectively coordinating large complex programmes and associated budgets, with strong project management skills;

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with multiple teams located in multiple locations (virtual teams);

• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in French and English;

IV Working Relationships

  1. Internal: Interacts with the WWF GHOA technical team, CARPO offices and project staff on daily basis. Interacts with the NI enabling teams, ecoregion teams and other WWF Network staff. 
  2. External:  interacts with in-country governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, the media, and donors.
