Description

The role of the Senior/Principal Acoustician will be responsible for leading on variety of projects as part of our Environment and Sustainability team.

We are looking to grow our capability in a number of areas and this is a key opportunity to help build capacity in noise and vibration assessment.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of UK legislation, policies and guidance, and understanding of the integration of environmental topics. Work will involve undertaking noise assessments to accompany planning applications as part of Environmental Statements, Transport and Environmental Appraisals.

The candidate will be responsible for their own work and technical checking of others’ work. Regular contact and liaison with both internal and external clients and regulatory authorities will also be a requirement of the role.

Desired Skills and Experience

Candidates need to be able to demonstrate relevant practical experience in:

  • Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) assessments
  • Noise Insulation Regulations assessments
  • Construction assessments under BS 5228
  • Webtag assessments
  • Consideration of the Noise Policy Statement for England (under National Planning Policy Framework)
  • Report writing, including noise chapters of environmental statements and noise assessment reports
  • Design and management of noise surveys and subsequent data analysis
  • Expertise in software noise modelling
  • Expertise in MS Word and MS Excel
  • Input to technical and financial proposals, project management, checking of reports, business development, Quality Assurance (QA) and Health and safety (H&S)
  • Mentoring staff in this field

Qualifications:

You will have the Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control by the Institute of Acoustics or equivalent experience, and be MIOA. Ideally you will possess a post graduate qualification in a related discipline and already have several years consultancy experience.

You will have practical expertise in noise modelling software, although training will be provided.

Desirable skills and knowledge:

  • Chartered, or working towards such status
  • Experience with ArcGIS or QGIS and CAD
  • Experience with vibration assessments and control
  • Experience of health impact assessment
  • Experience in BS 4142, BS 8233 and common law and statutory noise nuisance is a benefit
  • Experience of Sustainability appraisals
  • Experience as an expert witness
