ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
|
|
The Sr. Policy Representative supports The Nature Conservancy’s conservation goals by serving as advocate, liaison and informational contact between The Nature Conservancy and primarily the executive and legislative branches of state government as well as federal, state, county and local municipal agencies and private groups. S/he tracks government policies and decisions that directly affect TNC conservation goals, and serves as research coordinator on other issues of public policy and legislation. S/he may provide services that assist in influencing the outcome of legislative planning and policy initiatives at federal, state, county and municipal levels. S/he is a point of contact to inform the public, Conservancy partners and elected and appointed officials of Conservancy policy and positions in the realm of government relations. TNC

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
|
|
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy or related field and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination. Experience working with Wisconsin state government preferred.
- Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into reports.
- Supervisory experience (if required).
- Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.
- Experience presenting to and/or communicating with government, legislative and agency staff and/or program leadership.
- Experience working with MS Office, Word, Excel and navigating the Internet. Database management experience (if required).
- Experience working with nonprofit and for profit partners as well as government agencies without violating any restrictions related to conflicts of interest, lobbying former employers, or influencing decision makers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy or related field and at least 5 years related experience or equivalent combination. State government experience preferred.
- Well-developed communications skills
- Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.
- Supervisory experience, including ability to set objectives and manage performance.
- Familiarity with social, economic and political conditions and issues in the state.
- Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word and Excel. May require database management skills with ability to produce reports. Ability to use advanced computer functions including navigating the Internet. Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
