Description

Are you good at presenting complex issues and solutions in a compelling way? Do you have a good understanding of global supply chains, agriculture and environmental impacts? Can you deal with controversial issues in a multi-cultural context? Would you like to turn markets into drivers of positive change? Then you could help us reduce the impacts of soya production on high conservation value areas in South America.

WWF believes in a future where people and nature thrive. Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’re also committed to safeguarding the natural world through tackling the global threat of climate change. And by helping people to change the way they live, to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF-UK has been working with the broader WWF Network to reduce the environmental impacts of key commodities. With soya, we do this by harnessing the power of consumer markets of the UK and Europe to influence practices of producers. We also support policy and field work in Brazil that contributes to that end. We are now also looking to identify how we can best leverage the opportunities for this work to be replicated in China, the biggest soya importer in the world.

The post holder would have to build on our Save the Cerrado campaign to further engage the UK food industry involved in the import, processing, manufacturing and retail of soya, its by-products and soya fed livestock products.  We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who will be able to contribute to technical working groups and explain it layman's terms. You will think strategically and influence WWF Network activities on the production, trade and consumption of soya, adding the demand perspective to the strategies.  The post-holder will be comfortable dealing with stakeholders from different backgrounds and with different points of view.
