Description

Are you a highly motivated policy professional with a good scientific background with a desire to lead and develop policy?

Would you like to manage a significant project to introduce changes to UK renewable fuels legislation?

If so, we would love to hear from you.

As a Senior Policy Advisor within the Low Carbon Fuels Regulation team, you will play a meaningful part in delivering UK climate change commitments. You will take responsibility for developing and conveying complex amendments to legislation, securing buy-in from a diverse and challenging set of stakeholders, and advising Ministers on how best to decarbonise transport through incentivising novel low carbon fuels.

This is a challenging and exciting role based within a policy team, where you will combine technical complexity and controversy within a strong international and EU dimension.

A key element of this role will be to ensure that renewable fuels are produced sustainably resulting in genuine greenhouse gas reductions.

Our policy is increasingly focused on waste derived fuels and as we look to increase supply we will need to turn to novel and advanced technologies. There is an economic opportunity for the UK if we can manufacture these fuels and export the technology around the world.

Role responsibilities

• crafting policy recommendations relating to fuels produced from fossil wastes, such as unrecyclable plastics or waste industrial gases

• building effective relationships with representatives including other government departments, other countries, and industry

• managing a project which will require advancing evidence-based policy proposals for consultation, instructing lawyers to prepare draft regulations and managing research contracts

• monitoring and developing policies relating to advanced/development fuels from biogenic wastes, working collaboratively with colleagues who administer the existing legislation as well as affected representatives.

Please note - although the role could be based in either London or Hastings there is a business need to work in the London office approximately 2 days a week.

About you

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated with a real passion for making a difference and can see the bigger picture by understanding the strategic drivers in this area of work.

You are an effective team player, who encourages and enjoys collaborations within the immediate team and wider business areas.  Full details here.
