Transport & Environment (T&E) is Europe's leading clean transport campaign group. In recent years, Transport & Environment has tripled its budget to now above €10m. We are an ambitious organization with a team of 68 dedicated professionals, with colleagues in Brussels, Rome, Berlin, Madrid, Paris and London collaborating with our 63 member and supporter groups to achieve our mission: clean transport.
The Senior Operations Director will ensure sound management and continuity of the organisation, both responding to the needs of a growing, dynamic team and suggesting innovative new proposals. You will be a part of the senior management team, reporting directly to the Executive Director, managing a team of 6 based in Brussels.
In your role as Operations Director, you will be:
- Responsible for the coordination and development of the operations team in line with T&E’s strategic priorities. In particular, you will direct the work on Organizational Development, Human Resources, Fundraising & Grant Management and Administration and Finance.
- In charge of managing the organisation’s budget and supporting the teams in their management of individual project budgets.
- Leading, supporting and challenging your team to develop innovative and efficient project models and procedures ensuring management of complex programs throughout the organisation and across different countries.
- Implementing and following up on organisation-structure initiatives and new ways of working.
- You will be part of the leadership team, determining the overall strategy and day to day workings of the organisation.
The job requires that you:
- Have at least five years professional experience leading organisational operations, including human resource management and with a robust understanding of financial management. This experience should include at least 3 years experience leading small teams of highly effective individuals.
- Have experience reading, managing and updating budget and coordinating with teams on independent budgets for projects.
- Have experience working in an international setting, working across diverse cultures, and experience in a European NGO is particularly interesting. Experience of working through organisational change in this context is of particular interest.
- Have knowledge of the rules and regulations of working in a Belgian ASBL/AISBL, coordinating compliance with Belgian legislation on Administration, Finance and Human Resources.
- Have solid project management experience and be able to demonstrate managerial decision making abilities.
- Are sufficiently experienced to maintain the respect of your team and wider colleagues in the organisation, with a strong sense of coaching and collaborative leadership.
- Are a resourceful problem-solver who sets the scene quickly and ensures thorough completion, supporting colleagues to find and implement solutions.
- Have fluency in English and in either French or Dutch. Knowledge of another European language is a bonus.
- Have proficiency in MS Office. Google Business and knowledge of popular accounting software is a plus.
- Have excellent organisational, communication and written skills, particularly in English and French or Dutch.
