Job Title: Senior Online Organizer, Beyond Coal

Department: Online Organizing

Location: Washington D.C.

Reports to: National Online Organizing Director

Supervises: Online Organizer, Analytics

Context: Participates in the development of strategies and priorities to help the Beyond Coal campaign achieve its overall objectives. Develops and organizes an active, online network of Club members and supporters engaged in the Beyond Coal Campaign with an emphasis on national campaign development and building a larger activist base online.

Scope: The Senior Online Organizer is responsible for directing, planning, organizing and implementing the online education and mobilization efforts of the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign. Devises and implements online engagement strategies using Sierra Club's online data, web and email systems. Manages online organizing staff of the Beyond Coal campaign where applicable to support the national activities of the campaign.

Job Activities:

1. Develops, recommends and carries out a plan and strategy for the Beyond Coal Campaign national online organizing work in conjunction with the overall Sierra Club Beyond Coal Campaign strategy.

2. Organizes, develops, and coordinates online email outreach, web-based advocacy, and online-to-offline integration of the members and supporters who are interested in the Beyond Coal Campaign.

3. Manages lifecycle of national online projects designed to spur large scale growth of online activists involved in the campaign, including budget management, assistance in vendor identification and management, project execution, testing, launch and post-campaign measurement and evaluation.

4. Tracks and develops ongoing activities to ensure online experience for new Beyond Coal activists cultivates continued action and leadership development within the campaign, while minimizing email unsubscribe rate of new activists.

5. Coordinates closely with other Beyond Coal local online organizing staff to ensure local and national coal campaign activities are aligned.

6. Supervises an online organizer tasked with tracking and analyzing the national activities of the campaign, management activities include development of task objectives, approaches, and work products, establishing priorities; reviewing work and providing on-the-job guidance/training; providing ongoing performance feedback and conduct formal performance planning and evaluation, and making recommendations in hiring, termination and salary decisions.

7. Develops segmented lists, tracks, evaluates and reports results, target emails and builds/oversees appropriate web pages.

8. Travels to organize and coordinate training events, strategy sessions, field meetings, visibility events, or other large events and conferences as needed.

9. Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.

Knowledge and Skills:

-- Three to five years' experience in online organizing, campaigning or communications including previous management of staff.

-- Excellent computer skills and prior experience or aptitude with internet applications including email, constituent relationship management or other related database systems, and web applications.

-- Previous experience developing and managing large-scale online creative campaigns, including the management of design and web development vendors and large scale email acquisition campaigns.

-- Previous experience using data and analytics to track online activity of an activist base as well as in a measurement and evaluation setting for national creative campaign activities.

-- Excellent writing and editing skills. Demonstrated skills in writing and production of online campaign materials. Good verbal communication skills.

-- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in an action-oriented office.

-- Ability to work independently, cooperatively and effectively with public, staff and volunteers.
