Garrad Hassan & Partners has an immediate vacancy for a Senior Engineer (NL) within its Offshore Group. The role is to provide engineering expertise and project management services for the execution of engineering studies, design work, specifications and due diligence work on behalf of clients for offshore wind projects. The individual in this role will lead GH’s offshore wind activities for the NL market, building and managing GH’s offshore team in NL supported by the wider offshore team and also working in support of activities in other markets.
Reporting to the Director of Offshore Wind, the main activities will include:
Providing a GH ‘face’ in NL and Belgium to existing and potential offshore wind clients
Tendering for project work for these clients covering the full range of activities performed by the Offshore Team, which currently include:
Feasibility and front-end engineering addressing:
Wind turbines
Layouts
Support structures (WTG and OHVS)
Electrical systems and grid connection
O&M analysis and planning
Construction scheduling analyses
Offshore installation (WTG, structures, cable)
Wind resource and energy assessment
Engineering support pre-construction and through design, fabrication and construction for clients / main contractors:
Preparation of Design Basis and Specifications
Equipment review and specification
Tender review
Design review
Construction monitoring
Support structure (WTG and OHVS) detailed design
Due diligence for investors and lenders
Training courses run for external clients
Management, planning, reporting and technical responsibility for project work such as described above
Business development to provide additional technical depth and broadening capability of the Offshore Team through personal competencies and also through the sub-team to be developed in NL
Where essential to the project and required by the client, being based in client offices as part of the client’s in-house project execution team
Technical and project management presentations to clients
Supervision and training of junior staff
Knowledge-sharing with the Offshore Team and other colleagues in GH
Essential skills:
Be qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in a relevant engineering discipline;
Possess excellent project management, communication and problem solving skills and experience;
Have a thorough knowledge of the offshore wind business, particularly as may be applied to NL and Belgium;
Be able to understand, interpret and prepare technical reports;
Previous experience of supervising staff, and managing and working with 3rd parties;
Be able to communicate effectively including via remote link;
Have well developed IT skills;
Experience of designing and delivering presentations to a high standard; and
The individual will be based in the NL and will be required to visit other GH sites primarily those where offshore work is most active: Bristol, Horsham, Oldenburg. In addition, international travel will be required occasionally for meetings and conferences.
