SENIOR NETWORK INSPECTOR, ENERGY RESILIENCE TEAM

£46,975 TO £56,597 PLUS £12,685 SPECIALIST ALLOWANCE

LONDON

REF: IRC64688

SKILLED ELECTRICAL POWER ENGINEER NEEDED TO PLAY A KEY ROLE IN SECURING RESILIENT ENERGY SUPPLIES FOR THE UK

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has a vital mission - to power the country and protect the planet.

As a Senior Network Inspector, you’ll be part of our Energy Resilience team, tasked with securing robust energy supplies. Your role will be to conduct hearings and inquiries into consents for new and disputed electricity and gas network infrastructure, which means dealing with industry representatives, landowners and their legal representatives. As well as being involved with some major energy infrastructure projects, you will provide support during actual or threatened energy supply emergencies; advise on the development of energy policies; and represent us on various industry-led committees.

This critical position calls for significant experience and knowledge of the power industry. You must therefore be a skilled Electrical Power Engineer with solid operational experience and a good understanding of industry framework and relevant legislation. Your expertise will cover modern overhead and underground electricity transmission and distribution systems; plus electricity supply system planning and operation standards up to 400kV. You’ll combine this knowledge with highly developed report writing skills, plus the authority and diplomacy to chair meetings and speak publicly. Ideally, you will also be a Chartered Member of the IET.
