Senior modeling analyst: Energy Economist

Project Description

The Competitiveness & Sustainability Unit has a vacancy for a senior scientist (GH40) to work in the ESEA action (Energy Sector Economic Analysis). The desired profile is an economist or engineer with wide experience in the energy and the analysis of its environmental externalities.

His/her main tasks will be:The definition, assessment and implementation of energy and climate mitigation policies by the EC; Support the development and improvement of the model toolbox in use at IPTS (mainly POLES, TIMES); Contribute to the capacity-building process within IPTS concerning the development of quantitative policy assessment models and methods.

The successful candidate will carry out research related to several activity lines: Contribution to impact assessments of EU energy and transport policy, research and support projects for various Commission services; Application and further development of modelling tools; Analysis of results and formulation of policy conclusions.

He/she should have background knowledge in economics and/or engineering and demonstrate a consolidated applied research experience in the field of energy economics. Practice and familiarity with the assessment of policy options in macroeconomic terms are especially looked for.

The senior scientist must have at the time of applying a minimum of 10 years research experience at the post-doctoral level, or a minimum of 15 years research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies (which may include periods of training such as a master's degree) in the field relevant to the JRC's scientific activities.

 A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at least one other EU language is compulsory.
