Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning organisation that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace.
Develop an understanding of the campaign issue and build a robust media strategy for the campaign and its projects
Advocate the research and documentation by Greenpeace that shows the social and environmental cost of coal mining and thermal power
Develop a strong proactive line of attack on coal that may include human interest stories, investigative stories on corruption and land grab, and exposing the environmental violations of leading corporate houses
Develop a strong response strategy that would show Greenpeace as a conscientious watchdog of the environment and of people affected by environmental violations
Keep updated on national/international trends, political-economic issues, and other developments relevant to the campaign
Track news and information on the campaign & related news both locally and globally
Understand and use media planning and media analysis techniques to develop media strategies
Write press releases, advisories in English/Hindi, edit campaign reports, and blog
Develop a network of media contacts (print & electronic media) and interact with the journalists regularly (English/Hindi)
Develop a network of influential bloggers who can contribute to the campaign objectives
Create and further opportunities to profile Greenpeace, its campaigns, and environmental issues in the media (English/Hindi)
Plan the logistics for and organise for press conferences and other media events
Ensure the interest of Greenpeace on content and copyright is upheld
Coordinate with the media team, campaigns staff and support the Media manager
Supervise a team of media officers during a campaign project
Deputise for the manager if needed
What you need for this position?
More than 5 years of experience in handling media (English/Hindi)
Strong news sense
A degree in mass communication/journalism/public relations
Experience in developing and implementing media strategies
Ability to turnout PRs within a short time span, editing skills and preferably a flair for writing
Potential to be a spokesperson for the organisation
Knowledge of media operations and editorial policy
Fluency in written and spoken English and/or Hindi. Knowledge of another Indian language would be preferred.
A good network of contacts with print and electronic media, including at the level of Editors
