VESTAS TECHNOLOGY R&D AMERICAS, INC.
Our Hudson and Marlborough, Massachusetts facility leads the design and development of electric power generators and converters for wind turbines. We have an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our converter product development team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to join a fast-paced group of experts driving the next generation of renewable energy.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The position will report to the Manager of Converter Development, Vestas Technology R&D Americas in Marlborough.
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS:
Perform design and analysis for wind turbine parts, equipment housing, cable assemblies, and electrical/mechanical interfaces using 3-D CAD solid modeling software (Pro-E).
· Solve mechanical design problems
· Provide technical leadership to more junior engineers
· Generate requirements and specifications
· Work with vendors and source parts/equipment
  • Perform some structural analysis using FEA software ( ANSYS)
  • Support test and integration activities
  • Cross-functional coordination with Vestas Product Engineering and production teams.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • BSME
  • MS preferred;
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • 10+ years in product design and development (electronic/electrical packaging) for manufacturing
  • Experienced designing products for domestic and international markets
  • Used 3-D CAD modeling software tools
  • Preparation of engineering drawings using industry standards
  • Experience in sourcing and working with vendors
  • Experience transitioning products from development into production
  • Experience with large cabinets, enclosures, power cables/ wire harnesses, power connectors and mechanical packaging for power products.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Pro-E experience
  • Structural analysis using ANSYS
  • Thermal analysis using FEA software would be a big plus
  • DOORS or equiv. requirements specification software

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Self motivated, creative, energetic
  • Enjoys teamwork
  • Interest in gaining technical knowledge in new technical fields
  • Strong technical aptitude and materials background
  • Solid oral and written communication skills, coupled with good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to write clearly, understandable test procedures and test reports in English
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Domestic and international travel may be required
· Candidate must be open to relocation to New England within 4 weeks of offer being extended.
WORK LOCATION:
The primary work location for this position is Marlborough, Massachusetts U.S.A.
