Description

As statutory advisor on nature conservation to the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations JNCC is seeking a Senior Marine Advisor to support government in the development and implementation of policies associated with the EU exit. 

The post holder needs to have a good understanding of the importance of the relationship between scientific research, evidence and policy development.  They will be working with specialists from across JNCC and the Country Nature Conservation Agencies to develop advice and guidance on a variety of marine issues in relation to the EU Exit.  Discussion and input from other agencies and stakeholders might also be required. You need to be capable of working with a wide range of specialist to undertake policy analysis and to develop practical advice in a fast moving EU Exit policy environment.   

Additionally, the post-holder will contribute, as necessary, to other aspects of the Marine Assessment Team. The post-holder will be required to attend meetings and other fora at various localities in the UK and in Europe, involving overnight stays away from home. 

The position requires someone with expertise in marine policy analysis and very good knowledge and understanding of the main provisions of UK/EU marine conservation policy and legislation. It would be essential for candidates to have broad relevant marine ecological and a good understanding of marine biodiversity in UK waters.
