Description

Conservation International’s Center for Environmental Leadership in Business (CELB) engages corporations to harness private sector ingenuity on behalf of healthy ecosystems and human well-being.

As the Sr. Manager for Partnership Development, you will have an important opportunity to help build strategic partnerships for CELB through our Business and Sustainability Council and marketing efforts for our multiple benefit carbon offsets initiative.  CI’s Business and Sustainability Council is a membership based group of influential companies committed to environmental and business leadership. The BSC is not just a forum, it is a catalyst for innovation, convening corporate and environmental leaders to break new ground in the development of green business models and global commitments to healthy ecosystems and sustainable growth. 

Under the direction of Director, Business & Sustainability Council, the Sr. Manager will support CELB’s efforts to develop new relationships with companies that support membership to the BSC and engage them in initiatives such as CI’s offsets program. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruit new BSC members to achieve BSC expansion and revenue targets supporting CELB goals. 

  • In coordination with BSC Director, develop annual prospects list, establish and execute recruitment and retention strategy;
  • Manage, track and update prospects list, in coordination with other Account Leads
  • Represent CI at partnership meetings and strategic events to cultivate relationships with potential members and maintain existing partnerships, and foster awareness of BSC program, products, and activities.

Marketing and Communications

  • Work with cross functional team to develop content, collateral and materials for recruitment and retention efforts related to the BSC, including but not limited to products such as the BSC pitch materials, members only website, thought leadership pieces, information on conservation.org, etc.
  • Establish strategy and approach for enhancing the BSC’s reputation externally and demonstrate value to prospect members.
  • Develop collateral for CI’s carbon offset projects, including items such as fact sheets, pitch decks, and webinars.

Marketing of Carbon Offsets Products to the Private Sector

  • In coordination with Sr. Director, Corporate Relations, develop outreach strategy to target private sector companies and associations to integrate high quality verified REDD offsets into climate change & energy strategies.
  • Support and track annual revenue goal from the marketing of CI REDD offset projects.
  • Establish strategy and approach for enhancing the reputation of CI’s offset portfolio externally to demonstrate leadership and value.

Working Conditions

  • Travel (20%); some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • This position is located in Arlington, VA at CI headquarters. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, business or marketing.
  • 4-6 years of experience relevant to business development, marketing and/or product sales.
  • Demonstrated experience working with company representatives at all levels.
  • Solid understanding of current trends in CSR and environmental business leadership.
  • Strong background in marketing, communications and/or business development.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, communication and client services skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment and with a cross functional team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
  • Solid understanding of, and commitment to, CI’s mission and conservation priorities.

Preferred

  • MBA and experience in Marketing and/or Business Development.
  • Experience in marketing environmental services with specific knowledge about carbon markets.
  • Experience in marketing conservation products within an NGO.
