Ocean Conservancy’s Communications and Marketing team has a focus that spans all aspects of these critical areas. We strive to condition the climate for change by informing, inspiring and empowering the public to take action; and then build on the new coalitions we create through strategic engagement of stakeholders and corporate leaders. We pride ourselves on reaching key constituencies in new and innovative ways; building Ocean Conservancy’s brand promise via strategic partnerships; and working with our program teams to win real changes that protect and promote ocean health.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Media Relations Manager will advance Ocean Conservancy’s brand and strategic priorities by developing, executing strategic media plans. The position is responsible for generating national and regional media coverage and positioning Ocean Conservancy as the leading, science-based, solution-oriented ocean conservation organization. The Senior Manager Media Relations coordinates with the rest of the Communications and Marketing team and program directors to develop and convey consistent messages across communication channels.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum five years experience in public affairs, marketing and/or journalism
• Degree in English, Political Science,  journalism, marketing or other relevant field or related experience
• Superior written and oral communication skills, including capacity to communicate complex ideas compellingly to a variety of audiences.
• Strong grammar and editing skills
• Knowledge or experience with government and environmental policy issues

• A strategic thinker who can bring the creativity, energy, discipline and commitment needed to promote Ocean Conservancy’s message and brand.
• A high-level performer, with the ability to move rapidly in response to communications opportunities as they present themselves.
• Experience and high-level of comfort with assertive pitching
• A skilled writer with understanding of best practices particularly for online writing
• Attentive to details and adheres strictly to deadlines and deliverables while keeping a larger vision in mind.
• Highly collaborative with an appreciation of the benefit of a multi-disciplinary team approach.
• Personable, passionate, productive, and focused on advancing the cause of ocean conservation.
• Experience with cause-related marketing a plus
