Description

The Institute for Sustainable Communities is seeking short or long-term technical specialists for expected opportunities in the areas of:

1) Climate and energy planning – base lining and tracking energy use; policy analysis of municipal energy saving programs, policies, and projects; strategic planning for selecting and implementing such programs, policies, and projects; development of other climate change mitigation and climate adaptation activities.

2) Energy efficiency – work with municipalities to explore and understand their options to increase heating and electrical energy efficiency in buildings in multiple sectors (residential, commercial, industrial, municipal – including wastewater treatment) through retrofits, upgrades, or construction; work with municipalities to explore and understand their options for behavior-based energy conservation.

3) Green job program development – support municipalities in developing programs to foster job creation in fields with positive sustainability impacts.

4) Local government capacity building – develop strategies to foster collaborative planning processes; serve as trainer to government officials on facilitation techniques and advocacy strategies with municipal leadership.

5) Workshop design and Curriculum development – creating courses geared towards municipal staff and leadership related to the topical areas of energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, climate and energy plans; designing and managing multi-day workshops for small groups (25-30).

6) Facilitation – facilitating workshops; facilitating mentor-mentee relationship building.

7) Online resource design – developing user-friendly web-based tools for delivering curriculum to workshop attendees as well as non-attendees within the municipal official audience.

8) Sustainable transportation – work with municipalities to explore and understand their options to increase efficiency in their transportation system and practices, including travel demand management, public transit, car sharing, vehicle choice, and efficient driving.

9) Stakeholder engagement – support municipalities in engaging appropriate stakeholders for successful and strategic climate planning and implementation processes.

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in related field, preferred;
  • At least 5 years experience working with local governments relating to any of the above areas of expertise;
  • At least 7 years demonstrated experience in the management and design of climate and energy projects; and
  • Must be willing to travel for short periods of time within the United States;
  • Must be fluent in English. Knowledge of one or more other languages a plus.
