Description
National Wildlife Federation is currently seeking a Senior Legislative Representative for NWF’s American Waters Campaign. The Representative will advocate on behalf of NWF to promote and defend national clean water laws and policies in congress and federal environment agencies and to advance regionally based large-scale aquatic ecosystem restoration programs.
Responsibilities:
Help develop and advocate for a Clean Water and National Aquatic Restoration policy agenda for NWF. This includes: policy analysis, building relationships and advocating for key policies with agency and congressional restoration staff, producing educational and advocacy materials, leading restoration “fly-ins” and coordinating with regional restoration programs.
Help build and coordinate activities under NWF’s America’s Water Campaign. This includes developing relationships with the leadership and membership of the coalitions NWF leads and advocating and implementing policy for these coalitions.
Advocate and implement key policy reforms that will better protect people, communities and wildlife from climate impacts. This will include legislative and administrative remedies that will ensure agencies like U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA are taking actions to account t for climate impacts and to curtail building and rebuilding in environmentally sensitive and high risk areas.
*This position will provide direct assistance to the Director of NWF’s Aquatic Habitats Restoration Program with a wide range of tasks and needs to help build and sustain the program over time.*
Minimum 7 years progressively responsible experience in helping develop and implement advocacy campaigns, grassroots organizing, media, and environmental advocacy.
Skills:
Must be knowledgeable of how Congress and Executive Branch agencies work.
Must be knowledgeable about water restoration laws, programs and policies and how to use them as a tool to protect wildlife and wild places. (Familiarity w/Federal budgets and Congressional Appropriations process a plus).
Ability to work collaboratively with others, strategic thinker, well organized, strong communicator, and have a demonstrated ability to set goals and meet deadlines.
