The Department of Applied Sciences is recruiting a research active Senior Lecturer in Plant Sciences to undertake strategic research in the Biological Sciences within the Centre for Research in Biosciences. You will contribute to the development of a programme of research, building collaborations within the team to contribute to the next REF (UoA 6).

We run a number of accredited Foundation and BSc (Honours) and MSci programmes in Biological and Environmental Sciences and we have recently expanded our postgraduate provision. We are seeking someone experienced in teaching and research in the plant sciences with a focus on crop sciences to support these programmes. You will be able to demonstrate particular experience in teaching and assessing plant physiology / plant molecular biology across all levels, with teaching experience to include laboratory practical’s and digital approaches.

At senior lecturer level, you will lead and participate in the design, development and assessment of module(s), and perform a visible leadership role in relation to the teaching team. You may also be required to undertake administrative duties associated with a highly active academic science department, as required by the Head / Associate Head of Department.

You will support students on Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses relating to Biological and Environmental Sciences.  You will make full use of the university’s new glasshouse facilities (the Envirotron) to support your teaching and research activities.

You will have:

  • A BSc in Plant Sciences or Biological Sciences (or related area) and be qualified to PhD in a relevant subject
  • An active research profile with a growing publication record
  • Experience in gaining research funding from relevant organisations, research councils and/or industry
