Environmental Justice - London or Brussels

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting and challenging role for an experienced mid to senior level lawyer to advance ClientEarth’s work in the European Union’s (EU) legislative, policy, regulatory, and justice space from a public interest perspective. The role will have a particular emphasis on positioning our work within the Commission’s better regulation and rule of law agenda. The successful candidate will develop a deep understanding of existing work concerning implementation of EU regulation (such as the REACH regulation), underlying concerns with transparency, participation and access to justice, and will also address emerging concerns such as proposed EU-US regulatory cooperation. The work will involve developing a compelling and coherent strategy, identifying and leading legal interventions to advance an overall strategy, and representing ClientEarth with high level external stakeholders. While the work has a strong EU focus, connections across programmes and with our national and international work will be essential.. and legislative processes..

The role may be based in ClientEarth’s London or Brussels office.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success developing strategic programmes of work and of managing the delivery of activities to a high standard. You will be ready to engage in strategic thinking, advocacy and creative problem solving in a public interest law setting. You will ideally have a strong understanding of EU environmental law and regulation, EU institutions and processes, and/or Trade law. The successful candidate will be creative, adaptable, resilient, able to take initiative to develop collaborative and strategic relationships with colleagues across ClientEarth programmes, and be confident and credible working with a range of external partners and actors from NGOs to regulators and officials. You will also have demonstrated commitment to environmental issues and working in the public interest.
