Working within APEM Biolabs, you will work within a UKAS accredited team synonymous with high-quality analysis, large capacity and fast-turnaround. Samples can be sent directly to the team, or collected by APEM staff as part of a wider project. The specification of analyses provided is tailored to the needs of the project, with flexibility being one of our strongest qualities. APEM Biolabs is keen to foster the specialist taxonomic skills that are in increasingly short supply, and is committed to providing rewarding careers and long-term professional development for aquatic taxonomists. We are looking for taxonomists with freshwater and / or marine phytoplankton expertise. It would also be advantageous to have an understanding of other types of analysis such as zooplankton, macroinvertebrates or diatoms and a general knowledge of aquatic ecology You will be qualified to BSc level or ideally higher for Senior positions, and have the equivalent of at least 1 year’s full time experience in the analysis of phytoplankton to genus or species level. You will be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are therefore essential, as well as an attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines in a commercial environment. Your taxonomic skills should be excellent, and you should have previous experience of working under an Aquatic Quality Control (AQC) system.
