Senior International Advisor Forestry

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is one of the world’s most active development organizations with almost half a century of international experience and presence in 33 countries across four continents. SNV aims to build the capacity of local organizations by providing, together with local and international partner organizations, high quality advisory services through a team of advisors with a range of expertise.

SNV is operating in the Balkans in four countries; Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro. Via its capacity development services it is working in all four countries in the forestry sector linked to EU integration, rural development and governance. During 2008 SNV Balkans has investigated the possibility for expansion of its programme in Kosovo. A project is developed in joint effort with SIDA especially for forestry, while also SNV investigated in the opportunities for a wider programme input including rural development, tourism and governance.

Based on the agreement with SIDA, SNV Balkans started its operation in Kosovo from the 1st of January 2009. The initial focus is on the forestry programme, while at later stage also other sectors might be included.

We seek a talented Senior International Advisor Forestry for the start up of the forestry program in Kosovo SNV Balkans, with the duty station Prishtina in Kosovo.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
• EU Forestry knowledge
• Forestry Expertise
• Knowledge and experience in innovative forest management
• More then 7 years practical forestry experience,
• Preferably active networks and contacts within the forestry sector
• Knowledge of and experience in change management and change process facilitation.
• Knowledge of ID/OS

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Excellent spoken and written English and general communication skills
• Friendly, outgoing personality and a person who is confident to lead but to be part of a team
• Computer literacy
• Driving skills

DESCRIPTION OF DUTY STATION

The position will be based in our Prishtina office.

Name: Prishtina, Capital city of Kosovo, with about 500.000 inhabitants in the Centre East part of Kosovo, located at an altitude of 650 meter above sea level. It is connected to the central plain area of Kosovo on the South, while from the other sides it is surrounded by mountains. As a new capital city Prishtina is developing fast, all central level organizations are located in the capita as well
as the major universities International schooling facility since a few years available in Prishtina. There is a lot of construction and increasingly more business, restaurants and shops are available. It has lively centre. It has a
continental climate with cold winters (reaching till -15 degrees Centigrade) and hot humid summers (reaching till 40 degrees Centigrade). Rainfall is well distributed with an average of 55-60 mm/month. Prishtina has an ethnic
composition of large majority of Albanian people, with Serbian people (around 10-15%).

Medical Facilities: The city has relatively good health care facilities.
Security situation: Stable although there are still tensions with Serbia and Serbian communities within the countries.
Communication: Excellent land line and mobile (cell) telephone services and excellent internet services.
Accessibility: 1.5 hours drive to Skopje (Macedonia’s capital city), 4 hours to Podgorica (Montenegro’s capital city). Peja 1,5 hours in West of Kosovo, 1,5 hours to Mitrovica in North West, 2 hours Prizren in South West and 1 hours to Ferizaj in the South. The international airport is located 25 km outside of Prishtina with good regional connections.
