Description

Job Title: Senior Instructor (SI)

Department: Ecoventure Senior Field Studies 

Location: UAE, Sri Lanka

Average Contract Length: 9 months

Reports to: Chief Instructor (CI)

From AED5000/m + 4 day Wilderness 1st Aid Course + food + accommodation + flight allowance 

Prerequisites

Essential 

  • Degree - ideally Geography but Biology or Environmental Science also Acceptable 
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience delivering science based lessons at a secondary level
  • Experience collecting data in the field and field work techniques
  • Good Communication skills
  • Driving Licence

Desirable 

  • Experience with curriculum and / or lesson plan development
  • Experience adapting programs to customers requests and requirements 
  • Experience training and developing a team
  • Think creatively about program development
  • Experience in working in mangroves, coastal and wadi ecosystems
  • Knowledgable about flora and fauna of terrestrial and marine ecosystems

 Role Summary

Communicate directly with teachers to prepare curriculum specific programs that meet their particular requirements.  These can change depending on age, area / type of enquiry and curriculum. 

Prepare / train a small team to assist with the delivery of senior field studies programs.

Prepare all resources and equipment for senior field studies programs.

Lead senior field studies programs.


Role Specific Responsibilities

Running Senior Field Studies Programs

  • Check emails, booking notes / curricular briefing form for up and coming camps
  • Liaise with teachers and operations manager to prepare the program including:
      • Preparing bespoke itineraries 
      • Preparing work books
      • Preparing a timetable
      • Ensuring the correct staff are allocated to the program
  • Ensure that camp packs are correct (LPO’s, orders, Student lists), with support of senior team.
  • Ensure that camp reports are correct and uploaded at the end of camp, with support of senior team.
  • Ensure incident reports are uploaded (through senior team) and acted on as necessary.
  • Check booking notes for up and coming camps
  • Delegate teaching to your team as much as possible (as appropriate)

Management Responsibilities

  • Management of Senior Field Studies Equipment and stores
  • Kit checks and inventories of Senior Field Studies Equipment
  • Prepping kit for Senior FS programs 
  • IC for Senior Field Studies programs
  • IC for programs as required 
  • Line manager for a team of Instructors

Developmental Responsibilities

  • Training staff to run Senior Field Studies Sessions 
  • Ensuring that Ecoventure delivers a quality product (through management and training of staff team, see below)
  • Instructor observations
  • Instructor Reviews
  • Ongoing Instructor development
  • Implementation of staff discipline

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Staff sign offs up to date
  • Staff files up to date
  • Car Rota
  • Ensure that MOS are up to date and followed
  • Ensure that RA’s are up to date and followed 
  • Ensure that all session equipment (inc. PPE) is checked on a regular basis and replaced when required
  • Ensure monthly inventories are checked and complete

Generic Senior Responsibilities

  • Carrying out duties and responsibilities as outlined by your line manager(s)
  • Representing Ecoventure in a professional and positive light both in and out of work
  • Setting a positive example for guests and staff both in and out of work
  • Development of department specific activities and session
  • Training to department specific standards
  • Extra duties as required 
  • Participating in Duty Manager on a rotational basis
  • Being ‘Camp IC’ as required
  • Developing and producing session plans, minimum operating procedures and risk assessments for Ecoventure sessions as required
  • Ensuring camp packs (Including logistics, LPO’s, feedback, camp reports and incident reports) are completed the Thursday afternoon prior to camp commencing (where logistically viable)
  • Review and submit camp pack (Including logistics, LPO’s, feedback, camp reports and incident reports) within two days of the camp being completed.
  • Maintaining and cataloging department specific equipment
  • Maintaining and upholding company standards set out at the beginning of season
  • Continuing to uphold and improve company standards throughout season
  • Helping to provide a support network for other members of staff both Senior and Junior
  • To perform observations, reviews and mentorship to those you line manage
