We are seeking a Senior Hydropower Engineer with a minimum of 10 years experience in the structural design of hydro power plants and water related structures.

The job will entail the analysis and design of all related structural components for intakes and powerhouses, preparation of technical specifications for construction contracts and review of construction submittals. Knowledge of dam safety and finite element analysis, particularly past experience with the ADINA finite element program would be advantageous. In addition, previous experience in the design and seismic upgrade of highway bridges would be advantageous.

Rounding out your profile are proven project management, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, and ability to work in a project team. This position will involve proposal writing in addition to the primary technical role. This position may require travel around Canada and possibly overseas.

 

Our portfolio of projects (Calgary Office) includes: water supply dams, tailings dams, hydraulic structures, drainage channels, irrigation canals, flood control dykes, stormwater management infrastructure, and hydro power facilities.

Position Summary:

You will execute and review engineering designs, write technical reports, prepare construction contract documents including overseeing production of drawings, manage projects and project teams, and train and mentor staff.

Your present skills include:

• First-hand structural design, particularly in reinforced concrete, experience on heavy civil engineering projects. This includes performing engineering calculations, providing proper documentation, and reviewing engineering drawings.

• Experience in the design of hydraulic structures.

• Working knowledge of relevant engineering design standards, codes, best practice guidelines and technical references.

• Construction administration and inspection experience would be an asset.

• Proficiency using structural analysis software and AutoCad. Familiarity with finite element analysis software would be an asset.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including experience writing technical reports and construction contract specifications. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

• Proven time management, project management and organizational skills. Able to meet schedules and budgets.

• Strong interpersonal skills. Able to lead and manage multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborate and work efficiently with engineers, scientists and managers at all levels, and communicate effectively with clients.

• Able to train and mentor staff.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

• Minimum of two years of structural design experience on heavy civil engineering projects.

• Eligible for, or registered as, a Professional Engineer in Canada.

• Construction administration and inspection experience would be an asset.
