We are looking for an experienced candidate to undertake engineering studies and designs of hydraulic structures (water intakes, waterways, weirs, river diversion structures etc) for hydroelectric schemes. You will prepare drawings and engineering reports and manage project teams undertaking such work.
This post reports to a Line Manager, who will be an Associate Director of the hydropower team.  The post will be located in Ashford.

The Hydropower and Dams Team works on a variety of water resources projects, the majority of which are located in the developing world.  Currently the team is working on some twenty projects located in twelve countries spanning South America, Africa, Europe, South Asia and South East Asia.
Other responsibilities include

  • Undertake engineering design and analysis of hydraulic structures;
  • Prepare sketches and manage the production of drawings of hydraulic structures;
  • Undertake analysis of hydraulic transients, flow characteristics and hydraulic friction losses;
  • Prepare reports on design and analysis work;
  • Assist with the development of analytical capabilities of the firm in connection with hydraulic analysis, including the selection and application of computer software;
  • Work as part of project teams undertaking hydropower, dams and water resources projects;
  • Manage project teams undertaking studies and design of hydropower, dams and water resources projects;
  • Develop knowledge and skills for commercial management of projects and quality control, including an understanding of the firm's Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental Management systems;
  • Develop knowledge and skills through commitment to CPD


About You
You will have a BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering and be Chartered or close to Chartered status or membership of relevant professional institution Experience. You must have significant experience of the hydraulic and hydrological aspects of water resources projects and experience of hydropower projects, including hydraulic transient analysis, hydraulic loss calculations and energy production modelling. YOu will also ideally have experience of spillway capacity and spillway hydraulic performance analysis, and of hydraulic design of channels, tunnels, intakes and other waterways. Other skills required include:
