The Licensing, Exploration and Development Unit (LED) within DECC works to promote exploration for oil and gas resources over the UKCS and ensures field developments maximise the economic recovery of hydrocarbons while paying due regard to the environment. We are looking for talented and suitably qualified Senior Geologist to join us in Aberdeen.

As a Senior Geologist you will be responsible for assessing new and ongoing field developments, to ensure that they achieve the maximum economic recovery of hydrocarbons, and for promoting the development of Fallow Discoveries and exploration of Near Field Potential. The post provides an excellent opportunity to utilise your geoscience skills in addressing field development issues across the full range of reservoir contexts including both clastic and carbonate from Devonian to Eocene age through all phases of field life from pre-development to cessation of production.

In addition to a first degree, or equivalent, in geology, you must have a strong technical background in field development and production geoscience and be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in the skills that are necessary to address oil and gas field appraisal and development issues across a wide range of assets in the North Sea. Experience in geological modelling at the reservoir scale is essential together with a good knowledge of reservoir scale geophysical techniques, as is a sound knowledge of uncertainty analysis, reservoir engineering principles and petroleum economics.

You are a team player with a proven ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Good communication skills are essential for this role together with good negotiating and influencing skills. Strong analytical skills and good judgement are also required together with a proven ability to work on numerous projects simultaneously to ensure deadlines are met.
