Minimum Requirements : Qualifications

• (Essential) – Undergraduate degree in forestry or environmental science
• (Desirable) – Post graduate qualifications (or progress towards qualifications) in science or business management
• (Desirable) – Nationally or internationally recognised environmental or environmental management systems auditing qualifications (e.g. RABQSA)


Skills / Knowledge

• Well developed environmental management systems auditing skills;
• Sound understanding of the functioning of environmental management systems;
• Knowledge of the forest industries of the Asia Pacific region;
• Familiarity with Australia’s environmental legislative framework;
• Well developed verbal and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated analytical skills;
• Strong organisational and time management skills; and
• (Desirable) Familiarity with Victoria’s environmental legislative framework
• (Desirable) Experience in environmental auditing in an industrial or natural resources setting.
Experience
• At least eight years experience in the forest industry;
• Demonstrated experience in working with environmental management systems;
• Demonstrated experience in working within Australia’s Federal or relevant state environmental legislative framework;
• Demonstrated experience in management systems auditing;
• Demonstrated experience in working within and leading multi-disciplinary project teams; and
• (Desirable) Demonstrated experience in working within Victoria’s environmental legislative framework;

Job Description : Position Summary

Based in Melbourne, the consultant will be responsible for providing professional support as part of a team of foresters working across the Asia-Pacific region. The key focus will be on projects involving environmental auditing within a forestry context. However the consultant will also be required to work across other areas in which he or she has appropriate skills and knowledge, as needed. The position requires well developed environmental auditing skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team, and willingness and capacity to travel locally, interstate and internationally as required.
Responsibilities/Objectives
• Assist with the identification of prospects and winning new work in the area of forestry/environmental auditing;
• Contribute to and lead forestry and environmental projects with an audit component;
• Develop expertise in environmental and systems auditing that is recognised internally and externally;
• Contribute as required to projects in other fields of forestry where the consultant has appropriate skills and knowledge; and
• Further develop and demonstrate expertise in project management, including achieving URS’ Project Management certification.
Reporting Relationships
The position will report to the Group Leader, Environmental Services group, within URS Forestry.
