Description

We are seeking a Senior Expert with an excellent track record and experience with marine governance issues to join the Marine Environment Programme. The position will be working with governments and regional agencies across the world, primarily in developing coastal states, to improve governance of coastal and marine areas. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in tools and approaches for marine and coastal conservation and sustainable development, preferably including marine spatial planning, integrated ocean management, blue economy, and international policy frameworks.

 

You will bring extensive experience as expert and practitioner to contribute to the activities of the Marine Environment Programme in the field of marine governance, development of project proposals, writing reports and research papers, analysis and synthesis of scientific information, capacity building for government representatives and broader outreach and communication to our clients and partners worldwide.

 

The position will require strong project management and fundraising skills, and close communication with donors, partners and stakeholders. You will be expected to strategically develop and lead large-scale, long-term projects and provide organisational and thought leadership in international multi-stakeholder marine projects.

 

You will work closely with our partners in Norway as well as with governments, international organisations and institutions worldwide.

 

This is a 100% permanent position based at our Head office in Arendal, Norway.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent in environmental or natural sciences and minimum 10 years work experience
  • Proven track record in successfully leading large and complex projects which have real impact
  • Experience with marine governance related issues, including integrated ocean management, blue economy, and marine policy
  • Demonstrated fundraising skills and experience in the development of successful project proposals
  • Experience in working with government and regional agencies, preferably in developing countries
  • Excellent research skills, experience in data collection and preparation of assessment reports
  • Excellent language proficiency in English, in particular excellent writing and editing skills
  • Working knowledge of another UN language, particularly French, is an advantage
  • Experience in working with intergovernmental agencies is an advantage

  • Ability to provide thought leadership in the field of marine and coastal conservation and sustainable development

  • High standards of personal and professional integrity

 

Compensation

 

GRID-Arendal’s salary system is linked to the Norwegian Government salary system. It is based on education and experience. Salaries are subject to Norwegian tax regulations. Insurance and personal benefits are provided in addition to salary.
