This is an exciting opportunity to join a new team - Heat and Industry – set up in August 2011. You’ll come on board as we reveal our Heat Strategy and embed it into policy. We’re looking for engineers with drive, passion, and inventiveness with backgrounds in the building or energy sectors. You’ll build on your expertise as you pull together on-going work on renewable heat, industrial energy efficiency, and small-scale distributed energy.

We’ll look to you to collaborate with industrial and academic experts to improve our understanding of technologies that can help decarbonise high temperature industrial processes, for example. You might also be involved in obtaining, analysing, and communicating data from real-life district heating systems, peer reviewing the inputs to new models relating to heat networks, and analysing the results from a field trial of approximately 1000 low-carbon domestic heating systems.

You’ll need experience of the energy sector – heat, energy intensive industrial processes, industrial energy efficiency, energy use in domestic and non-domestic buildings, or infrastructure for heating and energy systems. Qualified to a minimum of degree level in engineering or science, you’ll ideally have project management expertise. Your ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience will be make you stand out.

In return, you will gain the chance to influence national strategy, support evidence-based policy development, develop and prove yourself working in large and complex delivery programmes, and will work with and build networks in government, academia and the energy industry, all from a London base.

Play a key role in supporting our mission to power the country and protect the planet.

Interviews: expected to be week beginning 18th June 2012.

DECC values equality and diversity in employment and welcomes applications from all sectors of society.
