Introduction

Our client is seeking an experienced Environmental Planner to play a central role in expanding their workload and reputation in delivering environmental and regulatory services for a range of public and private sector infrastructure development projects.

The Job

The current workload includes the production of planning applications, environmental and planning related reports for infrastructure projects in the waste, energy and water sectors.

They support major capital water programmes across the UK, whilst in the energy sector their focus is on electricity, hydropower and thermal energy (including EfW and biomass) accordingly experience within these sectors would be particularly welcome.

You will be responsible for the preparation of planning applications including supporting documentation as well as managing the production of EIAs and other environmental studies. An important aspect of the role is the provision of planning advice to clients and colleagues primarily within the organisation. Opportunities may also arise to work on overseas projects.

You will be expected to provide high quality work within agreed time, budget and quality frameworks and ensure technical and quality aspects of projects are well managed to deliver effective solutions whilst ensuring client satisfaction. As you will engage in direct contact with clients you are expected to have client facing experience as well as commercial awareness and understanding.

You will be an important member of the expanding Sustainable Design and Environmental Compliance team and be based in the Newcastle or Warrington office.

Key Accountabilities

• Preparation of Planning Applications and supporting documentation including Design and Access Statements and Planning Supporting Statements
• Co-ordinating and managing EIAs and the production of Environmental Statements
• Preparation of Site Assessment and Development Briefs
• Liaising with clients, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders
• Undertaking community consultation events
• Commenting upon development plans policy and other planning related consultations
• Providing planning advice to clients and colleagues
• Technical proposal writing in support of the bid team
• Mentoring of less experienced staff and strengthening relationships with other disciplines
Qualifications/Person Specification
• Relevant degree qualification
• Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute or equivalent
• Full current UK driving license
• Proven track record of working on infrastructure projects
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills particularly the ability to produce clear well-argued reports and presentations
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to personal and continuing professional development
• Capable of organising and developing your work with minimal supervision
• Public inquiry experience would be desirable
