Job Purpose/Overview

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Manager to drive NATS’ Environmental programme, supporting the long term sustainable business strategy and goals, and driving towards NATS being a net zero emissions company by 2035 and carbon negative by 2040.

You will be managing a small team and will be accountable for engaging with key stakeholders across the business and developing innovative programmes of work to raise awareness of key environmental priorities and targets to help improve performance and reduce the impact of NATS’ activities on the env ironment.

Other duties include:

  1. Lead and drive NATS’s ambition to become Net Zero on estate environmental impacts, providing subject matter expertise to business areas to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
  2. Accountable for the continued certification of NATS’ ISO14001 Environmental Management System, managing a small team responsible for audit, compliance and reporting.
  3. Provide strategic input to NATS’ investment portfolio to ensure the culture, controls and due diligence are in place to deliver legal compliance and achieve the environmental objectives of NATS’ carbon negative corporate strategy.
  4. Ensure investments within NATS are accurately and appropriately targeting estate environmental improvement benefits.
  5. Collaborate with internal business leads, including senior leadership and external stakeholder groups to achieve key sustainability goals, developing strong relationships and partnerships.
  6. Apply expertise on environment legislation and advise the business accordingly.
  7. Lead NATS’ response to the threats of climate change and respond to adaptation reporting power requests and develop risk management strategies.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Ideally educated to degree level in an environmental or sustainability discipline.
  • Detailed experience of managing an ISO14001 certified environmental management system.
  • Member of IEMA or other recognised environmental vocational certification.
  • Extensive experience of environmental management with good knowledge of environmental impacts and strategies.
  • Expert level knowledge on environmental legislation, frameworks and reporting best practice.
  • Experience of Net Zero standards and Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Excellent reporting, analytical and auditing skills.
  • Innovative and forward thinking with the confidence and credibility to challenge the status quo.
