Our client currently has positions for Senior Environmental Consultants to join their growing environmental planning team in their Reading office.

The Job

The ideal candidate is required to support the delivery of major capital infrastructure programme in the water sector for clients such as Thames Water and Southern Water. The role involve working alongside their engineering and design teams, as well as providing support and advice to their construction teams. Opportunities will also arise to support clients in the energy and waste sectors and in joining a global business, opportunities to work on international projects will also be required.

Experience:

  • Experience of management of, and contributing to, EIAs and planning applications, and authoring environmental appraisals and assessments is essential.
  • Experience of work with utilities and/ or water companies and working within a consulting environment will also be of benefit.
  • Understanding of town planning, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, ecology, contaminated land, hydrology and the nuisance regime will be of benefit.
  • Any experience of construction site environmental management would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters Degree in a suitable environmental or planning discipline and an excellent understanding of UK environmental and planning legislation and processes. Full membership of an appropriate institute – and evidence of engagement with that institute – is expected. The individual will also demonstrate a track record in preparation of high quality oral and written communications and experience of third party consultation (e.g. Environment Agency, public exhibitions). As the environmental and planning advice is in support of our clients engineering teams, evidence of working within multi-discipline teams is essential. The ideal candidate will be expected to support and up-skill junior staff within the team, and experience of this will be an advantage. Project management skills and an understanding of how environmental issues affect project cost and programme is essential.
