We have a great opportunity for an experienced analyst to assist our work in reporting and analysing the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions.

We are looking for a high calibre individual with a background in analysis: statistics, science, or any other analytical discipline. The role sits in the team responsible for the UK’s greenhouse gas inventory; the inventory is the primary source of UK emissions data, and is used to monitor and report the UK’s progress in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. You will be a key member of this small team, overseeing the publication of various numerical outputs, including historical emissions statistics and emissions projections. The focus of this post is not the hands-on production of statistics or projections though; it is about ensuring that our outputs are robust, of a high quality, and meet user needs. We are therefore looking for someone who is capable of ensuring that these outputs form a key part of DECC’s core evidence base, and who has a real interest in how emissions figures can be used to help DECC meet its objective of driving ambitious action on climate change at home and abroad.

You will need good leadership skills, and be capable of driving forward work to improve the quality of our emissions statistics and projections, whilst also promoting their use in developing and monitoring UK policy on reducing emissions. You will have staff management experience, whilst being able to work effectively as part of a team, and will be able to deliver against competing priorities, addressing short-term demands, whilst maintaining momentum on longer-term issues. You will need to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and you will therefore be able to demonstrate strong inter-personal skills in order to work with others, building and managing networks as required.

You will have excellent written, verbal and presentational skills. You will be well organised, and capable of managing a varied workload, prioritising effectively to ensure that tight deadlines are met and longer-term tasks are progressed. You will have a good knowledge of project and programme management techniques to plan and identify key milestones/risks whilst taking work forward. You will be capable of taking the initiative, and will need to demonstrate how the work of the team contributes to the Department’s objectives. Strong analytical and statistical skills will be absolutely essential, together with the ability to analyse, interpret and understand data. You will need to be highly numerate, with a background in an analytical discipline, and will need to be capable of explaining analytical outputs, drawing conclusions and providing advice to others. You will possess good IT skills, and be capable of working with complex technical data and statistical outputs.

Successful candidates will be expected to undergo security clearance.

Closing date is: 30th November 2012

Interviews: expected to be week beginning 17th December 2012

DECC values equality and diversity in employment and welcomes applications from all sectors of society.
