The senior editor is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, reporting, assigning, editing and, occasionally, writing feature stories and department pieces for Nature Conservancy magazine. The senior editor collaborates with colleagues across the organization, as well as outside sources, to find, report out and produce compelling editorial packages that resonate with readers and advance the organization’s mission.  S/he identifies appropriate writers, building and maintaining a diverse and reliable stable of freelancers.  S/he collaborates with designers, photo editors and other text editors to envision and execute editorial packages from start to finish according to established deadlines, workflows, schedules and processes. S/he helps coordinate workflow and manages the magazine’s freelance copyeditors and proofreader, leading efforts to ensure editorial integrity and accuracy. S/he develops and maintains external professional networks and stays current with trends and innovations in environmental conservation and in the magazine industry. The senior editor reports to the editor in chief.
