Senior Ecologist

Salary: Competitive – Dependent on experience.

Location: Based in Otley, West Yorkshire.

Haycock & Jay Associates are a successful ecological consultancy based in the rural market town of Otley, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park at our doorstep. We have an enviable portfolio of projects in both habitats and protected species spheres. For example: protected species surveys of historic country parks and listed buildings; and, long-term monitoring of National Nature Reserves.

• Private clients including Local Authorities 

Our team:

Our team comprises six consultants, with specialisms in protected species, botany, habitat assessment and environmental/ecological impact assessment. All our staff are involved with local Naturalists Groups (e.g. bat groups, ARG etc.) and can often be found running/organising events at our local nature reserve (2 miles down the road). During the season we utilise casual field surveyors to assist with the workload on larger projects.

Due to our increasing portfolio of commissions we are able to offer the opportunity for two further full-time permanent roles within our consultancy (Ecologist and Senior Ecologist).

Your role:

We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to manage large projects, including EIA/EcIA, EPS Mitigation Projects, leading teams of field surveyors and supporting junior colleagues.

Essential skills and experience

• Full member of CIEEM or equivalent level of experience
• At least Level 1 NE Bat Survey Class Licence, with an up to date log book of experience
• Work on EPS mitigation projects, with an up to date log book of experience
• Botanical survey skills at least to FISC level 3 or equivalent

Preferable skills and experience:

• Named Ecologist on EPS Mitigation Licence
• Other EPS survey licence(s)
• Staff mentoring
• An ecological specialism or interest you are keenly pursuing (e.g. Invertebrates, bryophytes, aquatic survey, or even batology)
• Participation in local naturalist groups (e.g. local bat group, BSBI, local mammal groups etc.)
• Citizen science projects and leading wildlife training events
• Work at historic sites and buildings
• Work with NGOs e.g. Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage etc.
