Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Ecologist, who shares our passion for the environment to join our team.

Our team includes twenty-one ecologists, ornithologists, hydrologists and GIS professionals with over 200 years combined professional experience.  Our expertise covers a diverse range of topics from population modelling, blanket bog eco-hydrology, water resource modelling, protected species and bat ecology.

In terms of what we do here at MacArthur Green, we specialise in ecology, ornithology, hydrology and peat services, primarily focussing on supporting renewable energy projects and grid networks. We work for some of the largest renewable developers operating in the UK, such as Vattenfall, ScottishPower Renewables, Scottish and Southern Energy Renewables, EDF, BayWa, RES UK & Ireland and Brookfield, with projects onshore as well as offshore. We are also privileged to support statutory bodies such as The Crown Estate, the Scottish Government, NatureScot, Natural England and the UK Government.

We are pretty fussy about the work we take on and the people we hire. This is because MacArthur Green aims to only work with clients to deliver a positive impact for the environment and we need the right people, with the right attitude, to achieve this. We are delivering a positive impact through our three core business objectives: (1) we help projects with important environmental benefits succeed; (2) we support ecological research projects important to sustainable development, and (3) we operate a carbon-negative business.

If you are a senior ecologist and MacArthur Green sounds like somewhere you would like to work, read on!

  • Strong people management & mentoring skills and leadership experience.

  • Positive working relationship with regulators and statutory advisors.

Salary will be dependent on experience.  Other benefits include: Bonus Scheme and Pension Scheme.

The role will be primarily based in our office in the west end of Glasgow, right on the banks of the River Kelvin. However, one good thing to come out of the current pandemic is that it has shown us we can work as a team with everyone working from remotely from home – so we are happy to allow a flexible approach to working depending on individual needs.

A bit more about us

Through the work we do and the way we operate, we aim to have an enduring positive environmental legacy. We are doing this in two ways: we support research projects relevant to sustainable development (we are part-funding six PhD students) and we have planted our own native woodland scheme in Argyll (almost 30,000 trees). This will not only deliver biodiversity benefits, but will help to make MacArthur Green, and the services we deliver, carbon negative.
