Our client are seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to join their innovative and well established consultancy. Their specialism in ecology and planning enables them to advise on all ecological aspects of development, conservation and research projects.

The Job

Our client aim to enable their ecologists to earn a good and secure income, whilst enjoying their work utilising innovative ecological techniques within a highly expert, supportive team. Our client provide great opportunities for training in both ecological and commercial skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Ecologist will be responsible for managing a range of projects, with support from Principal Ecological Consultants, to deliver biodiversity objectives, including staff allocation, budget management and invoicing;

The Senior Ecologist will also be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Assisting the company to secure repeat business by developing client relationships;
  • Communicating with clients by telephone, letters and reports;
  • Protected species or vegetation surveys and write ups;
  • Managing survey programmes;
  • Mentoring less senior ecologist in their own specialist area.

The successful applicant will be an experienced Ecologist with the demonstrable credentials:

  • Experience of project management, meeting deadlines, working within budgets;
  • Experience of dealing with commercial clients;
  • Proven experience of surveying protected species and/or vegetation;
  • Good report writing and communication skills;
  • Practical experience of Ecological Impact Assessment;
  • Experience or an understanding of Habitats Regulation Assessment; and
  • Implementation of planning policy and legislation for nature conservation.

Person Specification:

  • Relevant degree (Ecology or related environmental discipline)
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or eligible to become one;
  • Able to demonstrate good all round ecological knowledge;
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of nature conservation and planning legislation;
  • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately to internal and external contacts verbally and through written communication
  • Be able to demonstrate an interest in business development;
  • Flexible approach to working as part of the ecology team or individually
  • Full driving licence.

Our client are particularly interested in hearing from ecologists with botanical survey and assessment skills and those with bat licenses or other protected species licenses.
