Our client is currently looking for a Senior Ecologist to join their Environmental team in their Bristol or Birmingham office.

Important

Providing Ecological support to an Environmental team - further building an Ecology team

The Job

This role would function as providing Ecological support to a wider team - and also focus on recruiting and mentoring more junior team members to further build on the teams ecological service.

Principal duties include:

  • Managing, supervising and training any new ecologists recruited to the Birmingham or Bristol offices to deliver ecological consultancy projects in the West Midlands and South West of England.
  • Preparation and submission of fee proposals and tender documents.
  • Undertaking the design and management of ecological surveys from inception through to completion.
  • Undertaking preliminary ecological appraisals and surveys for legally protected species.
  • Carrying out detailed and iterative ecological impact assessments.
  • Designing and implementing ecological mitigation plans and site works.
  • Prepare mitigation licence applications.

What we require for this position:

The successful candidate will hold a degree in an Ecology related field, have experience in holding and implementing Natural England mitigating licenses for legally protected species, have good communication, organisational, project management and report writing skills. Bat Roost Survey and Great Crested Newt Survey licenses would be desirable. A full UK drivers licence and use of a vehicle (with class 1 business cover) is also essential for this role.

The position is based in either the Birmingham or Bristol office. The working hours are 9:00am – 5:30pm. You may be required to work different hours as the job demands (for example, bat surveys may require night working and reptile/surveys/mitigation may require early morning or evening site visits). We offer a competitive salary with an excellent benefit package and annual performance related bonus.

To apply for this position, candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK
