Senior Ecologist (Freshwater Ecology)
Location: Wokingham
Salary offered: £25-£32k (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Ecology and Environmental Monitoring Division for a Senior Ecologist (Freshwater Ecology). Reporting to the Divisional Manager, and working closely with other members of the Ecology and Environmental Monitoring team, the postholder will be responsible for the management and delivery of a range of projects which will focus on investigations relating to all aspects of aquatic ecology, and in particular aquatic macro-invertebrates, macrophytes, phytoplankton and zooplankton, principally in freshwater habitats. There will also be opportunities to contribute to our broader portfolio of projects which include fisheries surveys, habitat restoration projects, incident response and water quality investigations.

This is a client facing role which will include commercial aspects such as the preparation of bids and tenders, project and budget management, regular client liaison and relationship management.

The post will be based at our Head Office in Wokingham and will involve work across the UK principally. The postholder will be qualified to a minimum of degree level in a relevant subject; and have at least five years practical experience of working in an aquatic ecology role. Some previous commercial and/or regulatory experience would also be desirable.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following core capabilities:

A high level of technical knowledge and capability in all relevant aspects of freshwater aquatic ecological monitoring and taxonomy; principally involving aquatic macro-invertebrates, macrophytes, algae and diatoms, with appropriate accreditations.
The ability to design monitoring programmes, lead field teams, write high quality technical reports and give technically robust advice to internal and external clients.
In-depth knowledge of industry standard aquatic ecology monitoring techniques, practices and equipment.
Understanding of relevant legislation in relation to the aquatic environment, and its practical implementation.
A high level of commitment to providing an excellent customer experience and high levels of service.
A full UK driving licence, your own vehicle, and a willingness to work throughout the UK, sometimes at unsocial hours or in inclement weather conditions.
