MassCEC is seeking an entrepreneurial and customer-centric leader with a diverse background in energy and/or cluster development to head its Market Development and Support Division.  The division and the Senior Director role, which are new for MassCEC, will bring together several existing functions that each support rapid, industry-wide growth of Massachusetts’ clean energy market.  Specifically, this role will oversee and coordinate MassCEC’s efforts at workforce development, sector development and knowledge development related to the clean energy industry.  Because the Market Development and Support Division is focused on foundational aspects of ecosystem development (rather than providing company- or project-specific support), the successful Senior Director will lead Ecosystem to become the “go-to” resource for both internal and external stakeholders.  The incumbent will have substantial experience setting ambitious goals and achieving market-disrupting success, and will demonstrate a pragmatic, collaborative and collegial work and management style.  A key consideration is a candidate’s ability to identify synergies and collaborative opportunities within the different functions of the Market Development and Support Division, across MassCEC’s divisions and with industry, academic and government partners.  This position will work closely with other senior management and report to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
In collaboration with the Executive Director, establish an aggressive but realistic set of goals for newly created Market Development and Support Division, building toward MassCEC’s agency-wide goals and mission;
Coordinate multiple sub-division functions (workforce development, sector support, infrastructure and knowledge development) with an emphasis on providing relevant, impactful and timely ecosystem-wide support to the clean energy industry;
Position the division as the “go to” resource within MassCEC for information on industry needs, market trends and local, regional, national and international policy developments;
Manage staff of between 3 and 6 team members, including senior managers and junior staff;
Guide new program development within each sub-division, with an emphasis on measurement and efficacy;
Foster strong relationships with regional, national and international partners, including industry groups, economic development bodies, workforce development bodies, governmental organizations and research institutions; and
Regularly participate in senior management meetings to provide detailed updates on division activities and progress toward division goals.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Significant experience driving innovation and growth in a diverse, multi-market industry;
Experience building and managing diverse teams and/or business units to address complex problems, while maintaining focus on common goals;
Proven ability to create and maintain strategic partnerships with a diverse set of organizations (public, private, research, etc.); and
Proven ability to identify market needs, gaps and barriers and deploy programs or services to successfully and quantifiably meet the market-oriented goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced degree in business, public policy, economics, or similar field;
10+ years in economic development, cluster development or entrepreneurship;
Experience working and partnering with public-sector stakeholders, including federal, state and local governments; and
Proven ability to communicate clearly and persuasively (written and oral) with internal and external stakeholders, including representing an organization or business unit in public presentations and events.
