NRDC is seeking a Senior Writer for the Development Operations Department in its New York office. The ideal candidate will have two to three years of experience writing for a high-volume non-profit development operation, and a strong commitment to environmental advocacy.

The primary responsibility of the Writer is to prepare persuasive written fundraising materials—including proposals, reports, solicitation letters, and financial budgets and reports—for a range of donors including foundations, individual major donors, donor-advised funds, and prospects.  The Writer must be able to write in a variety of styles ranging from the highly technical to the personal, and be flexible and able to turn with ease from one kind of writing assignment to another.

The Writer is expected to maintain a working knowledge of the interests and expectations of the organization’s major funders, and must be able to digest information about NRDC’s many programs from a variety of sources and describe our activities in clear and compelling language.

This position requires excellent writing and analytical skills, the ability to work under deadline and on multiple projects simultaneously, precision and attention to detail, strong communications and interpersonal skills, and the ability to make judgment calls in a variety of situations.  The Writer must be a collegial team player who is also able to work independently, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to contribute to the collaborative dynamic of the department.
