Who are we?

Our vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations.  Through our internationally recognised certification and ecolabeling programme well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded in the marketplace, through the leadership of our partners.  Critically, other fisheries are incentivised to improve their performance to meet the growing demand for certified sustainable and traceable seafood choice.   Over 400 fisheries around the world, representing 16% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC programme and over 1200 documented improvements to the way our oceans are being fished have been recorded.  MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

We are currently looking for a Senior Data Limited Methods (DLM) Project Management Officer, who can support our Strategic Research and Global Accessibility teams in delivering a large international project on data limited fishery management methods. You’ll be fully involved in project activities, including international travel to meetings and workshops, project planning and milestones tracking, creative thinking and problem-solving, supporting in synthesising case-study lessons as well as desk-based research, report writing and contribution to scientific papers, in close collaboration with our Senior Scientist.

You’ll be embedded amongst the MSC’s lively Science & Standards global team, in London, UK, and in contact with the MSC’s outreach staff on the ground in different countries where case-studies will take place (see list above).  You will also be collaborating with external institutions such as The Nature Conservancy, University of British Columbia and Oxford University.

This is a fixed term contract for a period of 18 months.

Who are You?

You will hold a masters’ or graduate?degree in?environmental science or natural resource management and have a keen interest in supporting small-scale or developing world fisheries towards environmentally sustainable resource management. We are looking for someone who has excellent personal organisational and work planning skills, with an ability to effectively manage internal and external relationships, collaborations and communications.

Especially desirable is experience in coordinating remote and in-person communications across large research groups scattered across different countries and time-zones, with a culturally sensitive approach.  

It is essential that you have an excellent level of English with a good comprehension of Spanish (verbal and written). Other languages may also be a plus (e.g. Japanese or French).

You will have some experience with quantitative data analyses, in addition to, or be willing to gain, an understanding of technical challenges of data and resource limited fisheries management contexts.

You will be enthusiastic about contributing to cutting-edge science and tools development and presenting findings in international fora, blog posts and social media.
